Spiegel hat heute seine iPhone-App vorgestellt. Nach Welt, Bild und Süddeutsche kommt von Spiegel jetzt also der vierte Versuch mit einer App Geld zu verdienen. Und damit sich’s auch lohnt, schlägt der Spiegel ziemlich zu: 3,99 Euro soll eine Wochenausgabe für das iPhone kosten.
Der Preis ist also durchaus happig und sogar 19 Cent teurer als die gedruckte Ausgabe am Kiosk. Da trösten auch der Zugang zum regulären e-Paper und die frühe Veröffentlichung am Samstagabend nicht drüber hinweg. Was sich die Spiegel Gruppe dabei gedacht hat, weiß ich nicht ganz genau. Druck- und Vertriebskosten einsparen und dafür mehr zu verlangen, ist nicht ganz nachvollziehbar und wird auch im Netz sehr kritisch gesehen und diskutiert.
Dafür ist die Anwendung auf den ersten Blick ganz clever gelöst: Das komplette Heft wird in einem ca. 5 MB großem Download komplett aufs iPhone übertragen und ist somit auch offline voll verfügbar. Wie bei einem e-Book wird nicht gescrollt, sondern mit einem Fingerwisch umgeblättert. Es gibt Bildergalerien, einen Artikel-Zufallsgenerator durch Schütteln des iPhones und eine Bibliothek, in der alle bereits gekauften Ausgaben hinterlegt sind.
Alles schön gemacht und scheinbar flüssig in der Bedienung. Ich konnte es selbst leider nicht testen, weil ich ein google-Phone habe – dafür gibt’s noch keine App.
Was ich allerdings ziemlich schwach finde – neben dem Preis natürlich – ist der fehlende Online-Zugang. Da verlangt Spiegel für ein Heft 3,99 Euro und wenn ich tagesaktuelle Nachrichten möchte, muss ich erst wieder über den Browser auf die ganz normale Seite zugreifen. Warum das nicht irgendwie miteinander verbunden wurde, ist mir ein Rätsel.
Kritisch sehe ich bei dem ganzen Hype um Apps vor allem die Preise. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass Spiegel bei dieser Preisgestaltung viele Leser davon überzeugen kann.
